About Us: History
Green Century Capital Management, Inc. (GCCM) is the administrator of Green Century Funds, a family of environmentally responsible mutual funds. It was founded by non-profit environmental advocacy organizations and is wholly owned by non-profit advocacy groups.
When the Green Century Funds were founded in 1991, there were only a handful of socially and environmentally screened mutual funds. Since then, many funds with social and/or environmental screens have been introduced. But today, the Green Century Funds remain among a small number of fund families that focus primarily on environmentally responsible investing. We are proud of our role in helping to grow the number of environmentally conscious investors. We think every investor should understand how their investments are being put to use. Similarly, we think every company should understand its impact on the earth.
As a result of GCCM's non-profit ownership, 100% of the net profits earned by GCCM on the fees it receives for managing the Funds belong to the non-profit advocacy organization founders. These earnings will help to further efforts to preserve and protect the environment - efforts that include: campaigning for the protection of clean air, clean water, and open space; filing lawsuits against companies that illegally pollute; and advocating for reduced use of toxic chemicals and reduced emissions of global warming gases.
